Peppermint oil is extracted from a perennial herb that grows up to a height of 1-3 meters. The plant of peppermint oil has slightly hairy serrated leaves with pinkish mauve flowers. It propagates easily through its underground runners. The herb has many species and Mentha Pepprita or peppermint oil is a hybrid of watermint (M. aquatica) and spearmint (M. spicata). Peppermint oil is a refreshing essential oil that increases mental agility and increases focus.

History: | The cultivation of the peppermint plant has been done in Japan and China since ancient times. Evidences were also found about its usage in an Egyptian tomb back in 1000 BC. According to Greek mythology, the nymph Mentha was the hot favorite of Pluto and as a result Pluto's wife Persephone, trod her into the ground. Later Pluto turned her into an herb named as Mentha Pepprita. |
Precautions: | Peppermint oil is non-toxic and non-irritant if used in low dilutions. Sensitive skin can experience sensitization due to the presence of menthol. Peppermint oil should be kept away from eyes and avoided during pregnancy. |
