Rose geranium is shrub of a hairy perennial kind. It rises up to a height of nearly one meter and has pointed leaves that are serrated at their edges. Its flowers are of pinkish white color. Steam distillation process is used for oil extraction from this.

History: | The plant is native to South Africa but is now cultivated in Reunion, Egypt, Morocco, and Madagascar. In 17 century, it was brought to European countries such as Italy, Spain, and France. There are almost 700 varieties of the plant, but only 10 provide essential oil in feasible quantities. It is a hairy shrub, often used in hedgerows, which grows up to 1 meter in height. It has sharp, pointed leaves with pinkish-white flowers. In ancient times geranium plants were used to keep the evil sprits away by planting it around the house. |
